EXCAVATION
Nearly every pool and spa begins with the excavation and forming of a precise hole in the ground. Depending on the existing grade of the site, some forming out of the ground may be necessary.

STEEL
Have you looked out of your car window while stuck in traffic along a highway or bridge renovation project? That funny looking mat of steel bars with little ridges on them is rebar. When encased in concrete, it becomes the skeleton of the project. Our pools are built with this very same method of construction.

PLUMBING
Pumps, filters, heaters, salt to chlorine generators, etc. are all connected with schedule 40 PVC pipe and fittings. These items become the circulation system of your project. Each one is custom designed to ensure proper function and safety.

GUNITE
Please read carefully the following definition from the American Concrete Institute:
shotcrete — mortar or concrete pneumatically projected at high velocity onto a surface; also known as air-blown mortar, pneumatically applied mortar or concrete, sprayed mortar, and gunned concrete. (See also feed, pneumatic; positive displacement; shotcrete, dry-mix; and shotcrete, wet-mix.) shotcrete, dry-mix— shotcrete in which most of the mixing water is added at the nozzle. shotcrete, wet-mix — shotcrete in which the ingredients, including water, are mixed before introduction into the delivery hose; accelerator, if used, is normally added at the nozzle.

Gunite — a proprietary term for shotcrete.

Sound Pools and Spas uses dry-mix. It is stronger than the wet mix, and is more consistent. It is also much more expensive. Beware of the contractor that uses the wet mix for your pool shell. They are sacrificing strength to save $$$$$$!

PLASTER
The final finish and completion of your pool is the plaster. It is hand troweled to a smooth finish on top of the gunite shell and is available in many colors, from white to gray to black. Exposed aggregate and additive finishes are also available depending on taste and budget.
